I have come across a new technique that I am really enjoying working with. What I like about it is that it allows me the freedom to play and explore the matter I’m working with and literally be able to ‘draw’ a pattern straight onto the metal.
I think the layered affect creates a depth and richness to the surface of the metal and gives it the feeling of worn away pattern beneath the more promenant ones.
I enjoy the element of surprise at the end because you never know exactly how the outcome is going to turn out, so the piece of ornamented metal at the end of casting has a strong influence on what the final piece of jewellery will become.
You basically press, draw or imprint whatever you like into a piece of rolled out clay:
Once the patterned wax flakes are all peeled off, they are invested and cast in silver.
